Our Guest Bath Renovation

After years of living with an outdated guest bath, we finally decided to renovate. The bathroom is in the main area of our downstairs and for some reason the previous owners decided to install a shower (which has never been used in the five years we’ve lived here). We wanted to utilize the shower space better and decided to turn it into a much needed pantry. After the shower was taken out and the pantry was built, we thought about adding tile to the floor. Next thing we knew we were talking about paint colors, changing out the faucet, getting a new toilet and looking for new lighting. If you give a mouse a cookie…

Here’s a look at the before & after:

Wall and Vanity Paint: We chose dark ash from Behr Marquee. because we wanted something dramatic and dark. There are no windows in this bathroom and it’s super small so having a lighter color wouldn’t have made much of a difference. My husband painted the vanity but we hired out for the walls. Painting dark walls and a white ceiling with great precision along the edges is not in our wheelhouse.

Wainscoting Paneling Kit: we also hired out for this but it only took our guy a couple hours to install.

The pantry is much better use of space for us.

Turkish Hand Towels: so much cuter than regular hand towels and super soft.

Floor Tiles: I’m obsessed with these floor tiles so much. I based my entire bathroom design around them. Not only are they inexpensive, but they hide dirt super well.

Vintage Light Bulbs: Lighting is EVERYTHING. In houses, in shoot locations, in life. I love the transparent bulbs and the vintage feel. Quick tip: The higher the Kelvin number on bulbs, the cooler the hue is. The cooler the hue is, the more the room will look like a dingy prison cell. My go- to is 2700K- its the perfect amount of warm, without looking too orange.

Hand Towel Ring & Toilet Paper Holder

Brushed Gold Faucet

Vanity Light Fixture: love the exposed lightbulbs and the cylinder shape that coordinates with the faucet

Black Picture Frame: I saved $100 by framing bathroom print myself. Great quality frame.

Wicker Waste Basket: I like the plastic insert

Black Round Mirror: I wanted a big mirror for this tiny bathroom so it would make the space look as big as possible. It’s great quality and fits perfectly in the space.

Surf Print: I saw this print at a craft fair and immediately fell in love. It was the exact vibe I wanted for our guest bath. I also love the fact I’m supporting a small business.

Brass Cabinet Knobs: clean lines with a modern touch

Hip Hop Print: who doesn’t love Rapper’s Delight?
